First, clean out your closet. If you haven't worn it in one year, pitch or donate it. This is the only way you can find out what you have already and what you need to buy.
After searching the web, reading blogs, and putting in my own opinions, these are the pieces I have come up with to begin a basic wardrobe for this spring. Keep in mind these are for the plus size woman which is what I am, but you can easily use it for a smaller size too.
1. V-neck t-shirts short and long sleeves in every color you like. Buy the cheap ones since you are getting so many, and if you spill on your shirts as much as I do, they won't last long anyway. These are from Old Navy. The short sleeve tees are $12.94 and the long sleeve tees are $16.94.
Update: I was in Walmart last night and they have JMS short sleeve tees for $5.97 each. I bought a black one and a white one. There were many different colors to choose from. I have a Kmart Supercenter too and I will check their prices next time I am in the store.
2. 1 pair black slacks. I like these slacks from Avenue. They are on sale $39.99 right now.
3. 1 good quality black pantsuit. This is from Ann Taylor. The jacket is $168 and the pants are $98. If you afford it, go ahead and get the matching skirt for $78.
4. 1 cardigan. I bought a red one from Avenue and I really like it. It was on sale for $19.96. You should buy the color you like, not necessarily red.
5. 1 classic black pumps. Get these in the height you like. Just remember you will be wearing these a lot. I love the very high heels, but can't walk in them. These are just right for me. NOTE: I have noticed that the chunky heel is the new trend for spring. These are Madden Girl from 6pm.com and were $29.99.
